The
Ring
Release
Date: October 18, 2002
Box
office total: $128,579,698
The
film is actually a remake of a Japanese horror movie Ringu.
This version of The Ring was directed by Gore Verbinski, with the
screenplay by Ehren Kruger.
Amber
played the pivotal role of Katie
Embry,
the teenage niece of the main character, who is literally scared to
death! It’s Katie’s memorable death that sets the tone for the
movie. In the opening
sequence, Katie is sitting on her bed with a friend listening about a
videotape that kills people seven days after viewing it.
She tells her friend she has seen the tape and proceeds to fake
her death as a joke. The
phone rings and the girls go into the kitchen where her friend scares
her by not revealing it’s really her mom.
After Katie hangs up with her mom she hears the TV come on by
itself in the living room. She
gets closer to investigate and thinks her friend is playing a trick on
her. She turns off the TV
and starts to walk away when it comes on again.
She runs back and unplugs it. She slowly walks upstairs and sees
water coming from under her bedroom door.
She
opens the door…and screams.
Fun
Fact: The collage of “Katie’s” pictures on the cover of her
journal is really Amber and her real-life friends.
