Sundance Institute
Los Angeles, CA –Sundance Institute presents a special screenplay
reading of STEPHANIE DALEY on Monday, October 7, at the Tribeca Film Center,
375
N. Greenwich St. in New York City. Written and to be directed by Hilary
Brougher,
STEPHANIE DALEY follows pregnant forensic psychologist Lydie Crane as she
searches for the truth behind the case of 16-year-old Stephanie Daley,
accused
of concealing her pregnancy and murdering her infant. Individuals interested
in
attending the reading must RSVP by calling (212) 627-0513. The reading is
part
of the Sundance Institute Screenplay Reading Series of works-in-progress
that
takes place in Los Angeles and New York. The series is presented in
association
with MTV Films and Tribeca Entertainment.
Developed at the Sundance Institute 2001
Screenwriters and Filmmakers Labs, STEPHANIE DALEY is presented as part of
the
Institute’s ongoing support of independent filmmakers and their projects.
The
Screenplay Reading Series encourages continuing project development and is
an
extension of the Sundance Screenwriters and Filmmakers Labs. Many of the
projects presented in the series have moved forward into production,
including
LOVE AND BASKETBALL, SMOKE SIGNALS, THE WOOD, THE BUSINESS OF STRANGERS,
HAIKU
TUNNEL, and DOE BOY.

DALEY, a bold drama that examines the emotional journey of two women at a
critical juncture in their lives,” says Michelle Satter, Director of the
Sundance Institute Feature Film Program. “Hilary's work is smart and
compelling, and we're thrilled to support her at this important stage of the
project's development.”
Hilary Brougher grew up in upstate New York
and
started making Super-8 films at age fourteen. She graduated from the School
of
Visual Arts in New York City in 1990 and went on to work in a variety of
production jobs on independent films. In 1997, she wrote and directed her
first
feature, THE STICKY FINGERS OF TIME. The film premiered at the Venice Film
Festival and, after playing many other festivals, including the Rotterdam
Film
Festival and the Toronto Film Festival, enjoyed a small U.S. theatrical
release
with Strand Releasing.
Founded by Robert Redford in 1981, Sundance
Institute is dedicated to the development of artists of independent vision
and
the exhibition of their new work. Since its inception, the Institute has
grown
into an internationally recognized resource for filmmakers and other
artists.
Sundance Institute conducts national and international labs for filmmakers,
screenwriters, composers, writers, and theater artists. The annual Sundance
Film
Festival, a major program of Sundance Institute, is held each January and is
considered the premier showcase for American and international independent
film.
Through the Sundance Theatre Program, the Institute is committed to
invigorating
the national theater movement with original and creative work and to
nurturing
the diversity of artistic expression among theater artists. The Institute

maintains The Sundance Collection at UCLA, a unique archive of independent
